// M&S opens new-format store in Giltbrook Shopping Park, Nottingham
// Unlike many other M&S sites that have put food as the core focus, the new store is a complete clothing & food store
// The store employs 125 staff and is part of M&S’s transformation strategy to spruce up its estate
Marks & Spencer has opened a new-format clothing and food store in Nottingham as it pushes on with its transformation strategy.
M&S said the new store, located within Giltbrook Shopping Park, employs 125 staff and is part of the retailer’s plan to create a store portfolio “fit for the new world” under its Never the Same Again scheme.
The scheme has so far seen the retail giant shut down over 50 “legacy stores” as it seeks ways to replace ageing M&S sites with stores in the right locations and supported by digital technology.

Unlike many other locations that have put food as the core focus, M&S said the brand new Giltbrook store is a complete clothing and food store.
It is also located within easy reach of both Derby and Nottingham, in an area that was previously the biggest population in the UK not served by an out-of-town M&S store.
The new shop will complement M&S’s main Nottingham City Centre store although it has resulted in the closure of the off-pitch additional city centre shop – with all colleagues redeploying.
It also marks M&S’s second major opening that includes clothing and home this year, with a third opening taking place in Maidstone next month at Eclipse Retail Park.
The store has been seamlessly integrated with the M&S app, making it work with the Sparks loyalty programme and its checkout-free technology Mobile Pay Go.
The store also comes with customer wifi and a click-and-collect desk for online order pick-ups.
“Setting up a new store during this time hasn’t been easy – but it’s shown what great technology and amazing teamwork can achieve,” Giltbrook store manager Martin Kirkpatrick said.
“Our focus will be showing our customers the great ranges we have with a real focus on everyday style and weekly family food shops.
“It’s a new store for the new normal and our team will be on hand to help everyone shop with confidence.”
